Friends for Folks is about hope for people and animals who have lost hope. It’s about the power of love in healing and redemption. Friends for Folks pairs “unadoptable” dogs from shelters and humane organizations with state correctional inmates educated as dog trainers. Over the course of 11 weeks, the dogs become so well trained that they can be placed with special needs individuals and organizations.
Funding for a new facility at Mabel Bassett Correctional Center is nearing completion. In fact, they’ve already started construction on a new building dedicated to the prison’s dog training program for offenders.
