Allison M. Culbert Memorial Scholarship

Allison joined the Culbert family via adoption. Her parents and brothers soon learned that the quiet days of board games and reading were gone forever. She loved people, had a ready smile and effervescent personality that was akin to having “Tigger” (from the Winnie the Pooh stories) jump into your life. She enjoyed gymnastics, friends and Girl Scouts. She earned the highest award in Girl Scouts —the Gold Award when she was a senior at Mt. St. Mary’s High School.
When she was 19 years old she joined the U.S. Air Force, because she wanted to be like her parents. She became a cardio-pulmonary respiratory technician and worked at the hospital at Eglin AF base for three years. She was awarded the AF achievement medal for “correcting a ventilator malfunction and prevented a potentially life threatening situation”. She was recognized for her “quick and decisive actions in the care of such acute critical patients”. She was selected as a member of the medical transport team for casualties returning from the Dhahran bombing incident in great part due to her “compassion, sensitive attitude and devotion to duty”. Allison’s death in May 1998 due to a civilian accident was a great loss to her family and the USAF.

Eligibility Requirements:

- Must be a graduating senior from Mount St. Mary High School
