Since 1995, The Norman Community Foundation, a non-profit organization, has been dedicated to connecting donors with the charitable needs of Norman. By helping individuals, families, and organizations create funding vehicles for charitable purposes, the Foundation works to preserve and enhance Norman's unique quality of life forever. NORMAN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANTSNine Norman Organizations Receive Total of $5,500 in GrantsNORMAN – Nine non-profit organizations serving the needs of children and low-income citizens in Norman will share more than $5,500 in grants from the Norman Community Foundation. The organizations were recognized for their service to the community and presented checks at a reception Thursday, Feb. 11 at the Embassy Suites John Q. Hammons Convention Center in Norman. “All of these organizations serve an important need in Norman, and we are so pleased we can provide additional funding for their programs,” said Suzanne McAuley, chair of the Norman Community Foundation. “With just a small amount of grant dollars, these organizations accomplish great things for Norman citizens in need.” The grants are made from three funds administered by the Norman Community Foundation. The Max Weitzenhoffer Fund for Social Services provides assistance for food, shelter, clothing and other basic needs. The Anne V. Zarrow Fund for Children and Youth provides assistance to organizations working with young people in the community. The Norman Fund is a general fund to assist with unmet needs in the Norman community. The agencies receiving grants are: ■ ABLE Community-Based Services, from the Weitzenhoffer Fund to help provide funding for the learning lab improvement project ■ Bridges, from the Weitzenhoffer Fund to assist in purchasing perishable food items for clients ■ Meals on Wheels of Norman, from the Weitzenhoffer Fund to provide additional scholarship meals for those unable to pay ■ Norman Addiction Information Center & Counseling (NAIC), from the Weitzenhoffer Fund to assist in purchasing new media materials to be used in counseling groups and the Alternative to Suspension Group ■ Assistance League of Norman, from the Zarrow Fund to purchase hats and gloves for students served in Operation School Bell ■ Center for Children and Families, Inc., from the Zarrow Fund to assist in funding program materials and snacks for the Neighborhood Centers program ■ Firehouse Art Center, from the Zarrow Fund to help purchase supplies for McKinley Elementary School participants in the Art After School Program ■ Pioneer Library System, from the Zarrow Fund to fund meals for the Prime Time Reading Program serving at-risk students ■ Transition House, from the Norman Fund to assist in funding transportation and repair costs Since 1995, the Norman Community Foundation has worked to connect donors to the charitable needs of the community. Managed by the Communities Foundation of Oklahoma and governed by a local board of directors, the Norman Community Foundation includes philanthropic funds established by individuals, families and organizations. Grants from the Weitzenhoffer Fund, Zarrow Fund and Norman Fund are administered by the Norman Community Foundation board of directors.
